What food is Lisbon famous for?

From iconic pastries to centuries-old seafood recipes, the city offers amazing simple flavors you will be craving after you leave.

Food Lisbon Is Known For:

Pastel de Nata

This world-famous custard tart was born in here in Lisbon. Creamy inside, flaky outside, lightly caramelized on top. We eat them warm with cinnamon.

Bacalhau (Salt Cod)

Portugal has hundreds of codfish recipes, we even joke and say we have one for every day of the year, and Lisbon showcases many of the best. Bacalhau à Brás and Bacalhau com Natas are must-tries.

Sardinhas Assadas

Grilled sardines are a Lisbon symbol, especially in summer and even more in June, during the popular saints parties. They’re simple and smoky, for some it doesn’t look appealing, but I promise it’s worth trying, especially here!

Bifana

A pork sandwich marinated in garlic, laurel and white wine, usually served in traditional tascas. A must try quick lunch.

Why Lisbon’s Food Is So Special

Lisbon food reflects a lot of history and exploration. Recipes are traditional, the portions are generous, and meals are ALWAYS social.
