Lisbon Areas You Shouldn’t Miss

Lisbon is a city of neighbourhoods, each one with its own rhythm, food, and personality. These are the areas worth prioritising.
1. Alfama, Mouraria & Graça
Alfama is the classic starting point: old streets, tiled buildings, Fado houses, and castle views. Nearby Mouraria adds a multicultural edge and some of the city’s best street food, while Graça feels more local and laid-back, with excellent viewpoints.
Exploring these areas with a guided food tour helps connect the dots, between history, daily life, and what’s on the plate.

2. The viewpoints (miradouros)
Lisbon is built on hills, so viewpoints come naturally. Don’t miss:
Senhora do Monte
Portas do Sol
São Pedro de Alcântara
Santa Catarina
Each offers a different angle, and mood of the city.

3. Belém
Belém is where Lisbon’s maritime history comes alive. Visit:
Jerónimos Monastery
Belém Tower
Padrão dos Descobrimentos
And yes, stop for the original Pastéis de Belém. It’s touristy for a reason.

4. Parque das Nações
Modern, open, and right by the river, Parque das Nações shows a different Lisbon. Visit the Oceanário, walk along the waterfront, or just enjoy the space and calm.
Lisbon’s contrast is what makes it special, and exploring it through neighbourhoods (and food) is the best way to understand it.
