Experience the Best of Lisbon in One Day

Only have one day in Lisbon? Good news, you can still eat very well, walk a lot, and get a real feel for the city without rushing too much. Here’s how I’d do it.
1. Start the day with food (always)
Kick things off with a Portuguese food or Pastéis de Nata cooking class. Learning how these iconic custard tarts are made is a fun way to ease into the day, and yes, you get to eat them warm, but should not eat them straight out of the oven. Most classes also cover a few classic Portuguese dishes, so it’s hands-on, relaxed, and a great intro to local flavours.
If you’d rather explore than cook, this is also a great time to join one of our food tours, where we take you through Lisbon bite by bite, stopping at local spots you’d probably never find on your own.

2. Lunch at Trevo
Head to Chiado and grab lunch at Trevo, a true Lisbon classic. Order a bifana, maybe a salame, and a bowl of soup. Simple, fast, and exactly what locals eat.

3. Wander through Alfama (and beyond)
Next, it’s time to walk. Start in Alfama, Lisbon’s oldest neighbourhood, where narrow streets, tiled façades, and laundry on balconies are part of daily life. If you’re up for it, head up to São Jorge Castle for some of the best views in the city.
From there, make your way down towards Cais do Sodré, passing through changing neighbourhoods that show Lisbon’s different sides, old and new, calm and lively.
If walking with context sounds better than wandering alone, our guided food tours combine neighbourhood history with tastings along the way.

4. Dinner at Time Out Market
Wrap up the day at Time Out Market. In the evening it’s buzzing, casual, and full of good options. Try dishes from well-known Portuguese chefs, share a few plates, and yes, there’s always room for one more pastel de nata.
Put on comfortable shoes (very important), come hungry, and enjoy!

Or... you can do a "Beyond the Basics" Food Tour 👀

This is not your regular food tour.
It’s a tasting experience of Lisbon, told through the dishes, artisans, and traditions that shape the city. If you travel to understand how locals live, what they cherish, and the flavors that define them, this experience was created for you.
