5 tiny cafes you have to visit in Lisbon

In Portugal, drinking coffee at home is almost a last resource thing, we love a good café or terrace. A bica (espresso, in pure “Lisbonese”) simply tastes better when someone hands it to you across a counter.

But beyond the classic cafés, Lisbon has a special category I adore: tiny coffee shops. The kind you stumble upon, barely fitting a handful of people, yet serving amazing coffee There’s a certain magic in these miniature spaces. They feel intimate.

Here are a few of my favourites:

In a busy street, but once you’re inside, you feel safe. Both the matcha and the coffee are worth the detour.

A neighbourhood gem full of personality, also because of Carlos, the founder, owner, barista, cleaner, social media manager and everything that is needed in the tiny shop. Nerv has great coffee, great pastries and its just a vibe.

A matcha heaven owned by Mariana, a Portuguese girl in love with matcha & vegan treats! A must try is the white chocolate cookie.

Calm & soft and serves the prettiest matcha latte I have ever seen! It’s perfect for quiet mornings, journaling sessions, or simply watching Lisbon wake up.

Dramático lives up to its name with bold roasts, bold branding, and a bold personality. It’s the ideal stop if you love strong espresso, design-forward interiors, and a slightly edgier vibe.

Know a tiny coffee shop I should try next? Comment your favourites. I’m always looking for the next hidden corner brewing Lisbon’s best bica. ☕✨
