If you’re a serial pizza lover like me, you have to try these 5 pizza spots in Lisbon:
Palms: starting strong with the most recent place I visited, known for its NY Style pizza - made with a large hand-tossed thin & crispy crust, often sold in wide slices to go -here the star of the show is house pie sold by slice for 5€. Of course, if you’re brave enough you can get a whole pie.
Ruoto: this is peppe’s second venture and the first one was my favourite pizzeria in lisbon, like truly number one, serving neapolitan style pizza that didn’t weight on your stomach, very very light, he didn’t tell us his secrets of course, but he hinted on the fermentation time and right there we knew how much he cared about his pizza. After closing Pizza Mode, due to structural problems of the building, he decided to rebrand his pizza style and create the first pizzeria in Portugal that offers pizza in teglia or "pizza in the pan", is fried in olive oil in a pan at the same time is being cooked, so just imagine the incredible impact that has on the crust.
Lupita: well lupita is a classic, it boomed so much, they recently opened a new spot in Alvalade, a bit bigger, but the no reservation regime continues, so visit early to mark your place or be okay with with waiting… with some drinks on your hands of course. My go-to at Lupita is always always the white pizzas.
Pizzico: is not what you might expect, because what i was expecting was a tourist trap, is located right in the heart of Lisbon, right in the downtown, I thought recipe for failure, but after giving it a try, couldn't be more surprised. Neapolitan style pizza cooked in wood oven, full full of quality.
Retrogusto: was one of the first good good italian certified pizza spots owned by italians, really good neapolitan style pizza with an extra branch by the beach.
I am always on the lookout for new pizza spots so of course, this guide is being updated constantly! :)
Try them and let me know your thoughts & if you need some extra help where to eat, join one of our food tours.
See you soon and safe travels!
